The new infections department at Norra Älvsborg County Hospital (NÄL) was built in a park-like landscape with rolling grass areas and park trees. Forests and walking trails are nearby. We sought a solution that retains these recreational qualities and also offers beautiful views from the nursing rooms.
Because of the risk of infection, each nursing room must have its own entrance directly from the outside. Here, patients have the opportunity to go out on their own small patio. At the same time, ambulance staff and cleaning staff should have easy access to the rooms via a roof-covered corridor. Much of the task was to solve these functions on a small surface, without disturbing the patients’ need for calm and privacy.
